San Francisco, Tips and Recommendations?
I'm going to San Francisco for 4 days in late January and would like some recommendations. First I would like Know What part of town I should book my hotel – - I really want to be in the mix, if that makes sense. Also good (single) restaurants, bars, music venues, etc. etc. I really want to do most of the trip and would like to experience SF, which means I do not want to go to SF Hard Rock Cafe. I do not mind doing the work typical tourist as Fisherman's Wharf, but I really like to discover that the locals like the city and do that. I also have to rent a car or walk, taxi or car efficiently. Generally avoid driving in cities I'm familiar unless absolutely necessary.
Book your hotel in Union Square, between Market Street and George W. Bush, east of San Taylor. O Fishernan's Wharf. Or a cow Hollow / Marina. You can find hotels with free parking at the site in the Marina area, on Lombard St., near plenty of restaurants, bars and shops of Chestnut, one block away. If you go there, eat at Izzy's Steakhouse. It's historic and the food is awesome. Loss of local hang out, eat, drink, etc. When you arrive, go to market and Powell, and get a 3-Day Pass cabin in the cable car turn-around. Will cover the funicular and buses in the city for 3 days from the first day scratch. Do not buy a car unless you want to pay the IT service at the hotel, then you can use one day to go to Napa or Monterey or something. Go to all museums, including the De Young in Golden Gate Park. Avoid anything in the Civic Center and Tenderloin areas, west of Taylor St. near Market For upscale restaurants, there are about a million different grades and types of food. You will have to be a little more specific. I personally enjoy the Cheesecake Factory in the top of Macy's in Union Square. It is casual American. North Beach has many restaurants and bars in Italy, then there is no Chinatown, if you like Chinese food. Venues – I like Mr Slim, live rock bands. Lou's Blues There at the dock, which has local blues bands, I love too. For unique attractions in San Francisco, see the Mission buildings and the Haight, which is why the Golden Gate Park.
