To paraphrase Thomas Friedman, author of The World is Flat, which paraphrases Bill Gates:
Twenty years ago the career of a purely Financial If you have the option of being a "B" student in Brooklyn or an "A" student from Bombay, which is chosen first because the domination U.S. economy was so complete that the opportunities were plentiful, even for California students.
Today, however, many would choose to be "a" student of Bombay.
Why?
Power of the Internet has created an interconnected world knowledge based outsourcing in many jobs.
In the 80s, the economies of production many do not see the challenge of outsourcing to their cities, began to fade.
Many children of industrial workers were "educated" in the hope that they would be working at the local plant when they reached the age adult. Consequently, many parents do not put much emphasis on getting a college education. Her grown children had subsequently suffered as fewer jobs waiting for unskilled workers.
A similar phenomenon occurs in the bottom of the world in mid-range white-collar level.
Those jobs can be done in a fraction of the cost of a worker from a different English-speaking (country of India as the most notable) are losing their jobs at a rapid pace. Perhaps more importantly, who will graduate with the expectation of plenty of entry-level jobs on hold white collar of them will be a big disappointment.
To give just one example, H & R Bloch, the famous tax preparation firm no longer employs thousands of Americans recent graduates of the accounting degrees to prepare basic tax returns. Instead, most work is carried out by accountants who work cheaper Indians (and many would say more and better) than the average new counter U.S. average university.
There is hope. Conceptually the hard work will still be necessary. And while there is no doubt that the Indians, among others, are very capable of doing that work, work top is much more difficult to outsource. For example, businesses and high net worth individuals with complicated tax returns still need to debate in person and time management of sensitive issues. Those who can undertake such work will remain in demand.
Metaphorically, those recruited to work more conceptual challenge is the "A" students, not necessarily the "B" students and definitely not the "C" students.
The challenge is not so meaningful metaphorical and the challenge literally.
Despite the Great Recession, many parents are still in the 1980s-1990s mentality of world domination U.S. economy in which there were many jobs for any student of any university.
They and many high school students we in the southeast, the TC did not understand that getting better grades have a direct impact on college options, which in turn will have a direct impact on their prospects employment.
Sometimes we find well meaning but misguided parents who seem to think that no matter where a student goes to college.
From a level of life experience, this may be true. And to be clear, the career paths that do not require a high-level pedigree, this is also true.
But for those who hope to increase entry-level options to their students-the children will in the future, the college level makes a difference. This is not a value statement. This is "just the way it is." It is easier to get a job from Harvard, U. of little known
A few years ago, pre-fall on Wall Street, we have worked with a student from Essex, CT. He had a problem turning in his homework on time.
However, had great ambitions for his career. I wanted to make a "ton of money on Wall Street.
His grades, however, were consistently condemned for their attitude towards the task.
We met him when he was a veteran in a high school in the southeast, CT. It was too late to change their opportunities college admission (2.5 GPA will not impress admissions officers of many!). He was admitted to a non-prestigious university in New England, with no history of send their graduates to Wall Street or other senior financial entryways.
We are still working with him in a virtual tutoring quality you expect for achieve the best grades to increase their employment prospects. It would have been much better, however, had understood the relationship between grades and years of potential ago college options.
