For 10 days in late August each year and ends on Labor Day, the Minnesota State Fair operates. If you're in the Twin Cities area throughout this time, be sure to take at least a day and go to this fair.
I grew up attending county fairs well and was surprised that most of the fairs County are not really very good. Then my wife and I live an hour from the grounds of the state of Minnesota and decided to go just one day. This is not fair be missed. There is something for everyone.
I grew up farming, as agricultural sections are of great interest to me. I always like walking through the stable and see the beautiful specimens of dairy cattle are there. If you are interested in a specific breed of cattle or other animals, you want to watch a program because not all races are there all the time.
Along with livestock shows and exhibitions are also skills that are fun to watch. My wife always liked to go on day that have the horse pull. It was a very pleasant thing to see.
Far from the agricultural areas are also commercial buildings. Here you can find commercial boots with almost anything imaginable. The reason these buildings are so interesting is that products are highly innovative and unavailable, and you can talk to a supplier, often the product development on the product. Many times we have bought some things that we still use today, and I've never seen anywhere else before or since.
We always have some of the regular activities we do when we go to the fair. We always go to the "All you can drink" milk booth. This is an endorsement of Minnesota dairy. It is an octagonal building with what appears to be the beer taps throughout the interior and a bulk milk truck backup in the building. The last time we went, you paid fifty cents and could drink all the milk you wanted. It's great!
Another thing we always do is go the position of French fry. In this business fresh potatoes cut into thick French fries and fried up. There were three or four different sizes and vinegar Malt and tomato sauce to put on them. There is no better potatoes on the planet in my opinion.
Since then we have gone from Minnesota, but do plan a visit to late summer and spend a day of quality in the Minnesota Sate Fair.
